Default '68 4-Speed Backup Switch

I recently purchased a '68 327/350 4-Speed that was missing the backup switch mounted to the transmission, so the backup lights obviously aren't working. I've purchased a new switch but cannot locate the plug that it connects to. The wiring harness showed where it should have been (hole thru firewall on drivers side of wiper motor), but after looking in the dash, I cannot find it. It should be an L-shaped connector with green and pink wiring. Anyone know specifically where it connects or have any ideas of where I should find the connection? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the lead to the backup light switch is an L-shaped connector with a green wire and a pink wire. This feeds through the four hole grommet in the firewall and leads down to around where the engine bellhousing is and this is where the connector is that the switch leads plug into. If you don't see the green and pink wires leading from the firewall with the connector attached, my bet is that someone cut the wires off at the grommet. You may be able to look up under the dash to see if part of the wires are still there. Under the dash, these wires will feed into the main dash harness (the big fat bundle under the dash).

I don't have a safety switch or back up switch. Too much money for a simple switch.
Do have a dash switch for back up lights though.

I had the same issue and found the "batwing" connector and pink and green wires all balled up and shoved under the dash next to the radio. Poke around a little and you may find it. If not, it may have been cut off. A wiring diagram may help locate where it should have connected and you can folllow it forward from there.
