Last week I asked what you guys use to repair the plastic substrate on the consoles. Mine had cracked along the seams and was otherwise in nice shape. I was going to use the 'glass and resin but tried a 2 part epoxy called "pastic Weld" sets up in 15 minutes and looks like the same crappy plastic as the original. It really worked well and the console is as strong as new.
I've had several incidents of cracking my old original plastic based interior parts. (1) I was setting in my 68 driver's seat and wanted to reposition myself. I had my elbow on the center console and pushed down to lift myself up a little....snap! My elbow cracked the plastic pretty badly. (2) I had my emergency jack compartment door open. To close it, I gave it a little tap to just let it fall and close by gravity. When the plastic edge shattered like class when is slammed shut. (3) Trying to pull my driver's panel out between the steering wheel (even though lowered) and the dash, I cracked the plastic substrate under the vinly surface covering.
I've bought a repro panel, I'll buy a new storage compartment assembly, but the console I'll have to repair. They were unique for the 68 since they have the little slots to fit the seat belts into if you decide to drive without the belts on.

Gary, sorry I missed your previous thread on this... but I've been using this stuff on my dash pads, and console to hold them together - works great.
The plastic substrate is the plastic frame under the vinyl padding that seems to break at the corners and joints. In my car the upper left screw broke the tab off the plastic off many, many, years ago. I looked at it today and saw the PW relay hits the cable or vaccuum connector. I had to reloacte the relay lower for the new cable retofit to clear. Sorry I didn't take any digital pictures of these repair. I did take some 35 mm shots but they're still in the camera. The plastic weld is made by Permatex and as well as knock off brands in Auto-Zone or Advance Auto.
