I was putting my starter back in today and snapped the inside mounting ear off of the starter body. It seems like a poor design to me that is very vulverable to over-tightening.
Anyway, what recourse do I have? Should I just buy a new starter, or can the body of the starter be replaced (and is it even worth it)?
This is an easy swap out. Just make sure you get the starter nose that matches yours. I broke mine as well after rebuilding it and even repainting. I found that it was already cracked half way through before it snapped on me.
If you check with a local automotive electrical repair shop, they should be able to hook you up and will probably put in a new bushing for a small fee.
