Default inop tach 69

how do i check out the tach on my 69? doesn't work at all needle sets at 0 all the time. every thing is hooked up but tach won't move. any ideas?

If you still have the original distributor and tach it's mechanical. Uses a cable like a speedo cable from the tach to the distributor. The distributor cross gear fails and takes out the gear on the main shaft. Disconnect the cable at the distributor and hook up a cordless drill to spin the cable and see if the dash tach moves. It should unless the tach head is bad,most times it's not. If ok then the cable or gears are bad. I pull the distributor out at this point and disassemble them to repair. Look at the bore for the gear to see of it's cut up, if so it will need to be repaired,if not then you can rebuild the distributor to fix the tach and also get some more performance but curving it.

You can easily spin the cable by hand instead of the drill method to see if the cable is broken.
