Default BB + Tall valve covers = Problem?

I have already accepted the fact that they are not going to clear the brake booster, but what about the evaporator box on the other side? Previous posts on this topic say it comes close, but there is no mention of what kind of parts were used. Many pictures of the big block cars show the box removed and plates filling in the firewall.
I have a '76 with factory A/C. The engine is a 427 with Brodix heads and tall valve covers. Do you guys think I could modify the box enough to make it fit, or should I start planning on removing the thing?

Mine fit fine. There's a good 1-1.5 inches clearance.

Wow! Those valve covers look really cool. It's good news to hear you have clearance without any trouble. I guess I can relax a bit.

Mine did not fit. I had to work on the valve covers to make the pass side fit.

Not a very good pic sorry.

If they are the chrome type, a little tapping with the hammer will take care of the problem. Anyway, nobody will be able to see what you did once they are installed. When in doubt, call Bubba.

If you want chrome, GM has chrome valve covers for BB engines and they fit just fine and with all ranges of horsepower from 270-550+.

I wonder if it could be the heads or the motor mounts that cause it? I don't know what type of mounts I have but I do know I have the stock GM oval ports.

I guess I will just have to wait until a test fit to know for sure. Oh well, a little bit of mystery just adds to the excitement.
