Default Shorty Block Hugging Headers

Anyone know if the ceramic shorty or block hugging headers will bolt up to the stock exhaust flange. Or does the exhaust system need modification? thanks

I have run a set of patriot shorty oval port block hugger for a couple of years . While they do require some minor rerouting of the exhaust pipe , they have the correct flanges to fit the stock pipe . They are listed as fitting angle plug heads but I have them on a set of AFR straight plug with no clearance problems . The build quality and materials are very good .

I've always wondered the same thing... why doesn't someone design a set of shorty headers that would bolt directly to "factory" exhaust without mods?

Just build a jig that would have the same dimensions as a stock exhaust manifold and bolt pattern. It wouldn't be that difficult - but would exhaust flow be impeded too much? I don't have welding experience or the place to do it - or I would try it myself...

These are the ones I have. Brand new... never used... just bought for same reason as this thread. I went with Dynomax long tubes instead.
For a fellow Corvette enthusiast... $45 plus ship. Ship will be relatively cheap... I will send them through my work... next day... hee hee maybe $15 for ... maybe cheaper...

Hey, I also have a 73 4bolt 355cu in that I don't need. No cam as it had a bad exhaust lobe. I have big hard plastic crate that my replacement motor came in... Ran good except for the cam lobe problem.. anyone? anyone? Bueller? hahaha

Maybe no one makes them because there's no power gain to be had by routing them to mimic stock exhaust manifolds. I know the ram's horns flow prettty well for an exhaust manifold and shorty headers have the reputation for not doing much for power. Just speculation.

I've thought about Sanderson's cast iron shorty's but that's like paying for expensive ram's horns. I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy full length headers one of these days and make the
switch.

I have seen dyno runs on BBC cast iron and C-5 stock manifolds v. long tube headers...there is no appreciable power gain below 6,000 rpms. on a stock engine. Looks like Chevy did a good job designing the manifolds.

I've got a set of Sanderson shorty headers, but even they are a lot longer than the stock rams horns. I don't think you can make a set that would fit because the distance from the center cylinders to where the stock rams horn bolts up to the exhaust pipe is too short. The pipes wouldn't have a mandrel type bend, so what would be the point of buying headers? You can, however, cast that sharp bend.

Also, buy making custom shortys for Vettes, you automatically rule out Chevelles, Camaros, etc. The market is probably too small.
