Default Birdcage Rust?

Folks,

After following the thread about the poor guy from Canada with the rusted out frame I got to thinking. I recently took off my rocker panels when replacing my side pipes. The metal to which the panel is attached is pretty rusted out on the passengers side (the drivers is ok). I knocked off all the loose stuff and sealed what is reachable, but you can only get so high. Do the rocker panels connect directly to the birdcage? The frame itself is solid with no issues I can see/hear/feel. It is a 1979 raised in Florida until 2003. Are there other spots on the birdcage I should check that are easy to get to for a visual? I changed out the weatherstripping on the windshield and found only minor spots under the trim which I dealt with. Thoughts?

Many thanks,
Steve
