back in February we had to replace the gas tank, the vapor separator broke on installation so the guy that was installing it with me simply plugged the line with a bolt, therefore it has no ventilation, well one day i go to fill it up after driving it a little harder than normal, and came to find that the tank had caved in. i'm gonna drop it and try to use compressed air to pop the sides back out. If i succeed i'll reinstall it with a new vapor separator i found. will this vapor separator be enough to prevent this prob again or should i just replug it and get a ventilated gas cap? the hose coming from the canister up front isn't connected to the aftermarket carb so it isn't doing anything. Since the emmisions laws aren't around my area could i just plug that line and go with a ventilated gas cap?
Yes, a ventilated cap will work. Not so sure about the compressed air repair, though. Last thing you want is a weakened tank immediately behind your head in a rear-end collision. New replacements are cheap.
You need a vented cap and they are not that hard to find.
You can drill a tiny hole in the center of your old cap and have the same result! Make it as small as you can... You just have to let the tank get air. If the tank has been sucked down, you might want to consider changing the tank too!
