I have a 1972 small block automatic with an aluminum radiator. I am trying to make some brackets to mount my new Spal dual fans to the core support. Unfortunately I don't have the front clip on the car so it is kind of tough to tell exactly where the core support will be in relation to the motor once the front clip is back on. Can someone tell me either how far from the top of the radiator or how far from the right side of the radiator the fans are suppose to be mounted? Or can someone tell me how far the top of the core support is from the front edge of the intake manifold? Maybe some pictures ? I am trying to do all of this now while I can work on the front end easily, I just don't want to put it all back together and have the fans hitting the control arms. Thanks...

In your case, I'd mount them after the car is together. I have very little clearance between my upper control arms and the Spals ... and the fans are not centered, either. If they were centered, they would hit the left upper control arm.

Would you have a picture you could shoot me that shows how they are suppose to look when they are installed? I want to break in the motor before I put the body back on and I would like to have the fans running for that so I don't run into any overheating issues. Thanks, I appreciate it...

The problem with "guessing" is that when you are done, there is only 1/8 to 1/4 inch MAX clearance between the Spal shroud and the A-Arm bushing washers on each side - so your chances of having them in the right spot are slim to none. You need to have the radiator mounted and hold the Spal assembly up to the radiator to find out where they need to be in YOUR CAR (yes, they are all different).

Here is a couple of pics (however may not be too helpful - I may have others):

Good luck!

We mount them with 1.5" gap on the passenger side. That seems to work for most.
