Default ignition help!

Alright I'm gunna start out by saying I'm new to the whole engine thing...but I'm learning...so I installed my headers no big deal now i'm told I need to check the timing and rejet the carb..i can handle the latter of the two. So i ordered my timing light and its supposed to come in tomorrow so i'm just looking under the hood so i have an idea what i'm doing tomorrow and i find out that my distributer is not like i assumed it would be. Its a Mallory Unilite and the only numbers i could find on it are 384501 and then two vertical lines after the numbers..i'm assuming thats not any good for cross referancing. Point being this distributer has no vacuum advance...at least i don't think so..and after i take the cap off i have no idea how to take it apart any further..and have no idea how to adjust the timing on it. I'm just going to pray the timing is where it needs to be unless someone can rescue me and teach me everything i need to know....

timing is usually adjusted by loosening th distributor bolt, and then rotating the distributor body until the desired setting is reached.

if you have no mechanical advance, that should not really change how to adjust timing, but is may effect your decision on overall timing.

i prefer vacuum advance for street applications.
