Default 81 vette cats

well a long time ago on here i read that taking off the cats on this car really opens it up... i have had dynomax superturbo mufflers on it for a while and high & off brand performance cats. and there was not much of a sound difference.. basicly a annoying humm all the time. (although the initial low end was more jumpy) i want the v8 sound. the "rumble" but not quite a flowmaster 40 rumble(i have those on my truck) well im just now about to get them removed. Just how much does it open it up from the 190 Hp 280 lbft tq stock?? can you feel it at all? and some one on here sent me a website of a company that has a direct fit replacement pipe for removing the cats for a really cheap price. if you know it , send it again,
thanks.

Eckler sell a dual exhaust kit for the '81. The aluminized version isn't too bad pricewise. When I put the headers on mine a fabbed up a quick dual exhaust and connected it to the factory mufflers and it is definately louder. I had to put another notch in the crossmember to do this. I am hoping to have the time/money this winter to build a custom crossmember and a new stainless exhaust system with a x-pipe and new mufflers.

Default big difference

you will get a major seat of the pants feel if you remove it. it acellerates much quicker, I read somwhere the factory cat robbed somewhere between 25 to 40 horsepower

If you already switched to performance cats I doubt you will notice a difference when you take them off.
