Default C3 Seat Belt Light problem - Help!

Having problems in my "69 Corvette Covertible"... getting the "seat-belt" LIGHT on the center console working properly...

My vette is at a local Audio Shop where they just finished a nice custom stereo install for me and they called and asked me how the seat-belt light and button was supposed to work...

It worked properly before, so I told them that when you start the car the light came on as a reminder, and you simply pressed the button and it went off and stayed off until you started the car again. (I am correct, am I?)

Well the button after the install, was loose and would not stay inside it's placement (you could hold the button and spring in your hands, it would pop out and fall out) so, they glued (good glue) the back of the button (where the clip used to go) so that it would stay on (they said).

Everything works now ...BUT...........

When you hit the button the light goes out like it should but when you take your figure off the button (no pressure on the button) the light comes back ON.

I don't know the type circuitry (they said it looked like some reed type switch) or possible causes but I think if I found some useful info from any of the forum members here I could pass it along and help them out.

Thanks for any help!!

Post reply or call.

Sounds like the switch may have some internal components that are not assembled correctly...

The button assembly should be replaced in my opinion. They are sold by all the major vendors.
I think by gluing the back of it they changed the lenght of the assembly a bit, and there is not enough "throw" on the switch to activate the coil.

In fact, I MIGHT have an old one you can have. I have to check when I get home.
