I'm getting ready 2 dive into some small repairs on the door locks and mirror adjuster cables on my '74 w power windows. Any suggestions on which to tackle first or any special problems to look out for? I'm a newbie and have never actually opened up the door panels on a Vette so I'm wondering if anyone is hip to any secrets that might make it simpler?
I recently took my 72 coupe to a mechanic I like to have the driver side window worked on. It had a couple problems. One was that the window had a lot of movement in it near the top, and secondly that the window motor seemed to be moving the window very slowly. I purchased a complete set of rollers and shims from one of the Corvette suppliers for about $50 and a rebulit window motor.
The rollers and shims did the job of eleminating the window wobble but we found that the new door panel that I had installed was binding and applying so much pressure to the window glass that the motor was working very hard. We ended up shimming away from the door the new panel and that relieved enough pressure on the window glass that we did not need to replace the motor.
