I have a 1974 and the hood is about 1/4 inch lower than the fender on both sides at the point where the hood blends into the fender hump. That would be about half way up the length of the hood. It's not far out at both ends. It appears that the hood doesn't have enough bow in it from end to end. What causes this? Is it an adjustable problem? Ideas?
i noticed on mine that there used to be rubber bump stops at that point. i haven't replaced them yet but I do have a droop to mine although not that much. Wonder of that'swhat is driving the 1/4" offset?
Do you have the rubber hood bumpers installed. Mine did the same thing. I ordered replacements from ecklers. They came with trim instructions. I installed and problem solved.
I thought about those bumpers because mine are missing. it seems like it would put a lot of pressure on the hood, I am concerened about stress cracks in the paint
Thanks all for the replies. Nice rainy cool day here so it's will be a good time to look for those hood bumpers. I'll report back whether I have them or not.
Checked and I do not have the hood bumpers. But I do now have them on order.
My AIM (page 377, item 7, note Z) says the pads are held in place with adhesive so I did not buy the bolts offered by Eckler's.
I'm also a bit worried about cracking the paint. Any hints? Just be careful?

Just be gentle when closing it and it will be fine. I actually just made a ball out of electrical tape for mine. I find it has enough give not to overpressure the hood. I'm going to check into getting a set of those hood bumpers myself.
I like the ball of tape method. At least that way I can start with a little and work up instead of having too tall of a spacer and over stressing the hood.
Think I will try the tape and then take a measurement to give me an idea as to how thick the actual bumpers should be trimmed to. Thanks.
Also considering waiting for a nice hot day so everything (paint/hood) will be as soft and malable as possible.
Go to WallyMart and get some modelling clay (playdo) and put that under the hood. Measure the clay after you closed/opened the hood and cut the rubber bumpers to size...

My 82' does the same thing as well. I thought is was just sagging because of age. I'll have to check out Ecklers as well. Let me know how the installation goes...

(RedBad, I have a few hundred pounds of clay. Should have thought of that.)
Anyhow, before reading about the clay I went out and rolled up some duct tape and sit it where the bumpers would be. Sure enough fixed the problem and not a bit of problem with cracking or whatever. Now when those bumpers get here I'll be ready. I will do the clay and know for sure how thick to cut the bumpers.
NOW..... the front of the hood, just above the left headlight sticks up. Actually it has always done that. Anyone know where the adjustment for pulling that corner of the hood down is at?
