Just bought a 454 out of a 76 truck!! Its a running motor, 4-bolt with iron oval port heads. I've already run the casting numbers and apparently the heads are the "good" ones for HP use. The engine comes with exhaust manifolds, intake, alternator, ps pump, distributor, basically everything except the carb. (I wonder what the compression ratio is??)
Plans are to swap the heads out for aluminum heads, cam change, aluminum RPM intake...etc. I'll probably freshen up the block and rotating assembly too. All this started from not being satisfied with my piston choices for my 427 buildup!!! Now I've bought an engine, and moved up the C.I. scale a bit! So, my steel 427 crank will have to go, along with the heads on this motor and the "extra" stuff it has. Is this what you call "Big Block Fever?", if so, I DO NOT want to know what the cure is!!!!
