Default gas tank questions

i was thinking an aluminum gas tank would be a good way to lose some weight, so i got to thinkin(probably not a good thing) is there any companies that make aluminum tanks for c3s? would there be any reason to not use an aluminum tank? and just out of curiosity, do the newer vettes have aluminum tanks, and if so, when did they start using them? thanks

The 1997 to 2006 Corvettes use a plastic gas tank.

An empty gas tank, does not weigh very much. Even so, the best place to lose weight would be on the front of the car, not the rear. C3's are already nose heavy. Switching to an aluminum intake would save you more weight, and in the right place.

Rock Valley makes aluminum tanks for street rods and does make one for C3. They can make them with internal fuel pumps for fuel injection conversions too.

After just removing and replacing my tank, it was so light that I think efforts to remove weight would be better spent elsewhere.

Your much better off loosing the weight in the front, changing the stock intake can loose you a quick 24lbs. 16lbs is an aluminum intake vs. the heavy (40ish lbs). Change the stock rear spring if you want to loose weight in the rear. Go with a composite spring (7-8 lbs)
vs. stock spring at 44-46 lbs., big differance there, but concentrate on the front, heads, water pump, headers....

Agree the steel tank doesn't weight much plus it might provide a small extra margin of safety in the event of a rear ender.

alum calipers
remove spare tire
lightweight flywheel
headers

more radical
fixed headlights
