Default My '76 Cpe

My first post, been mostly involved in C4's, HD's & Z28's

Original owners of a 1976 Orange Flame Coupe, L48 Auto etc with roughly 15,000 miles.

Car was ordered from Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles, Calfiornia in October of 1975....got the sticker, paid a shade under $10,000, a big sum in those days.

My questions........

Car is all original (except the Firestone 500's have been gone for years, replaced the battery(s) and SS brake sleeves for the calipers (15 years ago).

Time hasn't been kind to the urethane rear bumper cover, plasticizer through the years is all gone so we got cracks etc. and the first generation factory Cast (Kelsey-Hayes?) mags have always lost air, porosity in the castings, I guess.

What's the suggestion for the rear end cover repair...new skins made of... ??

Anyway to seal the rims or just get another set of 2nd generation etc and sit on these?

Appreciate thoughts and experience here!

Hey - another '76 owner here. Same tires too! RE the wheels leaking - it was a big prob back then. Mine has Ralley wheels but I like the OEM alloys from the period too.

If you want to keep the OEM alloy appearance, and brighten the heck out of the car externally, get the POLISHED ones that Mid America sells. Same wheel, same style but it's not a natural finish on the alloy, it's polished. And they look GREAT! Be sure to keep some Mother's polish on hand to keep them looking that good.

RE: Bumper issues, don't know if there's another answer for that one besides replacement and paint

You can try painting the inside of those wheels to stop those leaks...worked on one of mine...don't use "fix flat" or any of that stuff...

Thanks for the feedback....I'll probably opt for a set of "chrome/polished" rims from Mid America etc and keep the originals packed away.

Will do some more research on the bumper skins.
