Back To Square One...No Start
I ask this because this happened to me when I bought my vette, and it is the reason the guy sold the car!
He hooked up the battery backwards
I found this out only after I put in a Mallory Dist.
My car would start and run with the points dist, but it would burn-up the alt wire as soon as some rpms came on, the alt would start putting out a charge.
Check your battery connections maybe you crossed them accidently.

How about running a temporary 'hot' lead to the distributor and seeing if you get a spark. At this point, playing with spark plug wires and ignition will do nothing if there is no firing of the plugs.
Inital response is to say its an ignition module kind of thing. Although I am so rookie I just pulled my first dist the other day
there is a length of resistor wire coming from your key switch. It is built into your wire harness and you must have it with the correct voltage to keep from burning up your points. (9v). It will look like any other wire but you must test it at the coil where you hooked it up. Also did you get it on the proper side of your coil? this is a easy thing to burn out and it shows no sign of damage till you test it.

We have to get spark, and there is nothing inside the motor that is going to get it for us. It's in the dist or wiring to it. Once we get it, we can work on getting it at the right time.
