I was just wondering what most of you would do if you needed to redue or replace your seatbelts on a 75 coupe to as close to the original, but not concerned about it being a numbers matching car. (Price is always a concern thought.) Your present situation is
1. The drivers side is seized in the open position where it mounts underneath the seat.
2. The color is very deteriorated, and silver.
3. You live in Canada, therefore shipping, duty and exchange must be concidered
i am doing this now as im changing my interior color. the gray belts wont look so good on tan/leather interior. if you can use the aftermarket, like mid-america, they offer replacements for big $, and they have a black only re-productiuon that will fit a c3, for little $ . i will most likely be getting these black ones, and be done with it.
I, too, am in the seat belt replacement conundrum. Although many C3 parts are affordable and some are a bit on the high side, I find the price of replacement seat belt assemblies to be off the charts! I have considered the “cheap” belts you mentioned, but when I look closely at the photo it appears to be only a lap belt.
Is it possible to get a 3-point system for a reasonable price? I’ve seen mention of somehow using late-model Camaro belts in a C3. Can someone point me to more information about this?
I am also considering sending my assemblies to Ssnake-Oyl Products, Inc. They will completely restore a set. Mine are in good shape, so I really just want a new color. No idea what they charge for this service, though. Anyone with experience?
I'm looking for shoulder belts for my 69...I have looked at Andover....seems best cost option for me....for 75,you might get away mounting the same...on the rear wheelwell humps...????
Seatbelt replacement I went the F-body route. 93-02 rear belts fit well with little work and add length to the lap belt. I got them off Ebay
What C3 years can go "the F-body route?" I have a '79. Can I use belts from the F-body cars? I know there are probably a ton of threads on this topic, but I have the hardest time finding information in these forums for some reason.
If your belts are mounted like this then the F belts should work.
Hey JustinGJ -
What did you use for the ring it passes through on the b-pillar ? Your original loops ? If so, how did you get them on ? I would like to sell my original belts as a complete kit, so ideally I would like to obtain different loops. (I am currently running the f-body belts without any loops)
I have some of the parts for a seat belt assembly. The two short belts and rubber sleaves are fine. I only have the drivers side shoulder belt and it does not retract right. It would have to be repaired. I will take $50 bucks for all of it. The belts are dark blue.
I would say the set of seat belts I've seen in the street rodder magazine from www. autoloc.com is a dead bang replacement. [similar to f body camaro/ firebird seat belts, not oem] The set comes in several colors and is the bucket seat version. The problem is, their website has nothing about them. They have a number however 503-693-6608. I haven't bought a set as I went the fbody route from ebay and was lucky enough to get the black set. But if I was shopping for a replacement to oem I would seriously give these a look. The problem with repairing oem is the recoil box under the seat has a clock spring mechanism that will rust and fail over a period of time. So if your keeping your car long term it will probably fail again at some point. You can pick up most any street rodder or rod and custom magazine at the newstand and see their ad any given issue. It does show pictures of their seat belts.

Take the plastic cover off the buckle, take two small crescent wrenches and pry buckle case far enough apart [gently] to get trapped roller out of buckle. Remove belt and install loop. Reverse order of assembly and your done.
I have taken my seatbelts apart and can tell you what I did. I don't have pictures but this may help anyway. The top part is easy because the rod pops out after you remove the tensioner by slowly prying up on the cap while holding it firmly in your hand and then count the turns to release the tension, I think mine were 5 full turns. The seatbelt can then be unwound all the way. The next step is to tap out the rods keeping track of the washers and there location. It took me one good hit with a hammer to knock loose. I don't have it in front of me but recall that it comes out from opposite the direction of the just removed tensioner. ie hit the end with the slit for the tensioner. The bottom is more difficult because of the plastic planetary gear assembly. The rod must come out on the same side as the plastic assembly and I could not find a way to remove it. They fixed the clear cap on by melting plasic caps on. i took a shop knife and cut the three weld dots off and removed the clear cap making note of the position of all parts inside, a camera works best for this. I then knocked out the rod through the bottom plastic assembly. To reassemble the parts I drilled a hole in the plastic where the plastic weld was that I cut off and then put a short large head sheetmetal screw in it. It's not perfect but it is a cheap fix. I ordered my webing through ssnakeoyl and had a local car interior shop sew the new webbing on and wound the belts back up. Let me know if this helps or you have more questions.
I used Ssnake Oyl Products to restore my belts about 3 years ago. Had them replace the web with new color and refurb all hardware, also had them do the the T-Top straps all told it was just under $300. They did a very good job and am very satisfied.

Thanks ! I'll just need to find another set of rings, as I want to keep my originals with the belts. Once they're attached that way, they'll be perfect - buckle right at your shoulder when you enter the car, instead of fishing for it next to the seat.
Well I tried a few bids on E-bay for the exact replacement with the exception of color but lost every time. Is there a certain condition that your belts have to be in order that Ssnake-Oyl Products, Inc will refurbish them? Also is there a web site that will give you pricing on refurbishing a set for a 75 coupe. I believe the going price is $250.00 U.S. I don't really know what other options I have if I still want the original look.
Why not take them apart and just spray them with fabric spray paint? If something is stuck then soak it with PB blaster untill it losens then paint em.

If something is stuck, I think I want a professional to repair it, not just spraying it down with PB Blaster. Safety first.
That said, I found a NOS set from a guy selling seat belts on eBay a while back for a relatively good price. Not long after there was a big price spike.

If you are bidding on Camaro/Firebird seatbelts on Ebay and missing out, why not give Billy Grahams Camaro Junkyard a look and see if he can get you a set of seatbelts.
