I have an all original 1975 convertible with 33K miles. The car has been great over the years and I have taken pride in the fact that EVERYTHING on the car works. Yesterday, the turn signals stopped working!!! It seemed as though there was a surge in the headlights and then the signals didn't work after that point. The problem is that I don't have the original manual and I have no idea where the fuse panel is!!! Can't seem to find it. I've never had to look for it before. Could this be a blown fuse or something worse like the relay mechanism. I figure if it was the relay, the light would come on but not click intermittently. Help me find the fuse panel!!! Also if someone could tell me which fuse runs the signals in case the panel is not labeled. I appreciate any help. I'm very upset by this!!!!
Fuse panel is labeled, its kinda hard to see, but on my '77 its wayback under the dash mounted on the firewall where the steering column goes through. I may be wrong, but this sounds more like the flashing unit that is located behind the dash on passenger side went out. Do not start ripping things out until you hear from someone who is a little more experienced than myself. Just my .02
The fuze panel is below the dash towards the left side between the steering column and the side wall mounted on the fire wall. Open the door and look in under the dash from outside the car. Use a light the letters are small.
How do I check the flasher? Nothing seems to be working, not even the little green dashboard arrow lights. I noticed that when I step on the brake with the brake lights on, toggling the signal lever up or down shuts off the respective right or left brake light.
Check your turn signal bulb sockets...I had the same brake light/signal problem. One of the ground wires broke off inside the socket. Spliced in a new socket and the problem was gone.
The air conditioning vent (ball) on the passenger side??.....reach right beneath it and you'll feel the flasher. It's held in place by a clip....should be easy to find and replace....
Put your head under the dash on the passenger side, that is where the flasher can is located. Easy to spot once you can get your head back to front, down between your knees
Actually, I got all the way under the driver's side and finally saw the fuse box. Couldn't see it the other day because I didn't get in deep enough. Luckily, as soon as I inspected the fuse box, I noticed a blown fuse staring at me. It wasn't labeled except for "25A". I replaced the fuse and voila!!! Turn signals work again!!!! $1.19 fix. Thanks for all the advice. By the way, in case anyone is wondering, the fuse for the turn signals is the second one down on the right side.
