As with all old cars, I am in the process of replacing all the weatherstrip on my 69 vert. The problem is that all the old stuff was removed before I got the car. I did the top with no problem, .The only place I seem to have a problem is when I get to the pieces that are held on with adhesive only. What is the best way to secure them while they dry, do you start in the middle and work your way to the center to keep them even, and where should the ends of the deck lid weatherstrip end. Should I keep the ends back from the end of the deck lid? Sure wish I had a complete car to look at so I could use it as a guide.
I had problems with the deck lid too. It seemed the weatherstrip was about 2" too long. I used wide masking tape to secure the weatherstrip to hold it in place before gluing. Tried as I might I couldn't compress it enough to get it to fit right. Finally, I cut it in the middle of the deck lid toward the rear. Afterwards, I talked to some other guys that said they too had to cut it. Everything else fit like a glove with no cutting or trimming required.
So, to answer your question, I mocked everything up with tape first. Cut the WS and assured that it fit right, then went back and applied the glue using the tape to hold it in place until dry. The deck lid was hard to close at first with the new WS but it is getting mushed down now after the car has sat for some time with the deck lid closed. Now the lid is reasonably easy to close. Make sure that the T-shaped ends of the WS fit all the way forward on the deck lid so that it seals well. If I recall, some of the WS sticks through an opening toward the front of the lid to seal against the door seal.
Good luck. New weather strip is really an improvement!
Thanks
I used the same tecnique and I got it to work although I had a different problem. Mine was too short. but I am learning that you have to have patience with these old cars and just coax things along.
Thanks again
