From: Las Vegas - Just stop perpetuating myths please.
Default Coincidence, everyone is posting 'bout bad 6AL boxes and not the 6 box.

Had a problem when starting my mtr after a 3-4yr shutdown. I have the MSD6AL, MSD dist with Blaster II also and found my power lead at the batt + was too corroded and not making electrical contact - no power to the box. Used that MSD troubleshoot guide to prove the box had no output - found corroded lead on a hunch.
I'm running a MSD6AL for the rev limiter. Replaced my MSD6 box though still working.
While helping another forum member found his 6AL box bad too. Sold him my old 6 box and car ran fine again. Never found out what he did with the bad 6AL or what the problem/fix was though.
Ya know NASCAR rules require analog boxes (unless recently changed) and most those cars run 2 boxes. They can swap boxes at the flip of a switch.

MH, there are a couple of great books on ignitions out - 1 by Dr. Jacobs (Optimizing ur ignition) and another sold at Summit thats covers a broader number of modern boxes but sorry i can't recall the title/author.
But really too much to type here on trouble-shooting coils, dist's, plug wires, etc.. Its fairly easy and all u really need a multimeter.

Hope this can help. cardo0

Thanks guys I will look at the troubleshooting guide and have contacted MSD

I'll take a pic of the rust inside the distributor, I noticed it a couple of years ago when it was not too bad, MSD said something about drilling a hole in the cap to let air in or moisture out or something like that and I told them they should be making these things so they don't rust, period

aaaah yes, the old hole trick. You do need to let the sucker breathe and not condense moisture inside.
