Could someone direct me to a walk through as to how to hook up a switch to turn on that lock up convertor on the TH-350C?
I've got my '81 vette with the computer crap scraped, essentially. The only downside to it is I can't get the better gas mileage w/o that switch. I know the Corvette Shop will hook one up for like $80 or 90 but I'll do it myself if it's that easy.
Simply run a hot wire through a toggle switch to the positive for the lock-up solenoid ( usually the top left on the lock-up plug on the side of the trans ) Then ground the solenoid ( bottom left on plug.) Or you can pull the trans pan to verify which wire should be hot and which should be ground. Once you get over 45-50 mph, flip on the toggle switch and lock-up will engage. Remember to flip switch off when you slow below 35 mph
is there any way it wire it so it works without switching it on and off?
Yeah, hooking the computer back up.
I just want a lil better highway mileage. So basically it's as simple as connecting 12v to one of the wires, through a switch, and grounding it with the ground wire?
I would include the brake switch so if you hit the brakes the converter unlocks. You may not have time to manually unlock it.
Maybe include a vacuum switch as well for when you floor it and the box kicks down.
looking into a B&M converter lock up kit $159 at JEGGS looks like it might solve the problem.. part number 130-70244
Too cheap for that!
I'm guessing I'll have to get creative with making the brake turn it off, huh? I'll call the Vette shop and see what their quote is again. If they quote as low as I remember it I might have them do it. The savings in gas will overide their cost. The parts alone may run me as much as they charge to do it.
For a manual switch all you need to buy is a $0.99 toggle switch and some elec line. I run one in my Firebird, the aftermarket Accell FI computer was not working properly so I bypassed it.

It is fully manual, toggle on and off. Only time you will get any real fual economy benefit from the locking function is on the e-way, around town it is almost always off.
My '81 came to me with the computer already disconnected. I had to replace the dist and Q-jet with the old fashion kind.
However, I pulled my tranny pan and saw that the TCC solenoid had a jumber between both terminals. I left it that way and I can feel the torque converter lock at cruising and unlock when I brake. Never a problem. I guess it's being handled by the pressure switch.
