Default column mounted ignition switch does not fit...

I am replacing an ignition switch on my 74. I have the dash apart to rebuild my tach and speedo. It has the orginal switch, so I decided to replace it. I have purchased two switches and both of them pinch the column rod and the key will not turn. I have set the switch and key in the correct position. I put the orginal switch back in and it fits perfect. Any ideas on shimming or ? Thanks in advance....

Are you sure that you have the correct switch? The T&T switch operates in the opposite direction from the standard (non-adjustable) column switch.

The correct switch can be adjusted but there is no shimming required.

I do have the T&T column and I have the right switch. I looked at the other one and it did not look the same. If I measure the distance the switch sits off the column, the new ones are about .030" closer which puts the rod in a bind with the column. I am going to try tweeking one and see of I can get more room for the rod. Again, the old one fits fine and has more room for the rod.

I wonder if your new switch has a non-USA origin?

After bending the bracket on the switch, it seems to fit. And yes, is says made in USA on the switch. You can visually see the difference in the brackets between the orginal and the two replacements I purchased. I went down to the parts store and looked at several switches of which all are made the same, not enough clearance for the rod to move freely. There does not seem to be any other variable in the fit, the column is straight and the bracket holes are straight and the rod seem ok.
