It all depends on how well you're equipped... with time, tools, $$$, friends and experience.
Many of the people on this forum have been there and done that. Try the "search this forum" feature at the top of the forum page. You'll find a lot of reading within this forum on the subject.
You might also try and find the "Noland Adams" series of books and/or videos on the subject. Noland worked primarily an C2 Corvettes, but most everything in his workbooks, etc. also applies to C3's.
It isn't necessarily expensive to remove the body, but what ensues there after can/will toast your credit card.
I did it almost all by myself with a little help from my brother. It takes a lot of time and patients. Remember to take pictures as you go so you can see how to put it back together. body-off
Depends on the condition of the car. I have a two-ton chain fall, garage rafters, purchased the lift hoist (any Corvette parts supplier- Zip's, Mid-America, Ecklers etc) and got it in place. The 10 body bolts (including the front by the radiator support) all need to come out. If they are as rusted as mine were, some will need to be cut out- the worst part of the job. the body lifts off fine if the bolts are out, and i used car-skates to slide the frame out sideways in my garage.
