Have all the bolts out, pinch bolt on the rag joint loosened completely, coupler is soaked in PB blaster, pulling back on the steering wheel, but it won't come out. Any ideas?
The plate on the outside of the dash (under the brake booster) must be removed. Then the lower lever on the steering column needs to be placed in the full UP position so that it will slide through the cutout in the dash.

On your '72 there's a starter interlock lever on your steering column. The hole on your firewall has kind of a slot for this to pass through. Make sure you have it lined up perfectly.
