15 inch 255 60 15s rubbed the front on my 72. Rears were fine. I ran 245 60 15s for years. I now have 255 45 17s all around. Some cars can run 255 60 15 some can't. The rears can go to around 275 60 15 maybe a little larger.

I run BFG Radial T/As 245 60 15s on stock rims and have no problems with clearance. Some run 255 60 15s without problems but, they look too big to me.

I have run 255/60 all around with a little rubbing in the front on tight turns. Just rubbed on the inside skirt just a little. I now run 235/65 on the front and 275/50 on the rear. 28" diameter tires are about as big as you can get on the rear. You don't want to lift the rear to much if you have adjustable spring bolts. This will change your camber geometry. I believe the 255/60 are around 27". Remember though, big rear tires will rob you of some off the line performance.

245x60x15 on the stock 8" wheel here. See a lot of 255's that show evidence of rubbing on the front at the vette shows. The e-brake cable just brushes the sidewall on my rear tires.

It's a risky adventure when you are interested in the most tire you can stuff under the fenders. What fits on one '72 may not fit on another even though you used the exact same tire manufacturer and rim. Corvettes are essentailly custom jobs, every one. Manufacturing tolerances are pretty broad. But if a tire combo works on someone elses car and you want to try it on yours, make sure to use the same manufacturer since same sizes vary by manufacturer or research the true measurements from manufacturer to manufacturer. Again, no guarantees but you stand a better chance.
