Default L71 ?????

Does any one know how to verify what engine came in a 1969 corvette using only the VIN #?
I dont have the tank sticker it is gone. The protecto plate is also gone.
All I do know is the 454 that is in the car now is not the right one.
Thanks for your help..

The Vin number does not tell what engine was in the car. From 72 on it did but not in 69.

If you can get the stamped numbers off of the block pad, that will help. If there aren't any then casting numbers will give a clue.

The ways to determine the original motor can also be falsified but since the car was sold to you with a 454 I would say most of the original clues will still be there.
Rear sway bar
L71/88/89 had a 6500 rpm redline
single fuel line, no return(for any 68/9 fitted with holleys)
heavy duty half shaft caps etc, etc

Look for a single fuel line from the fuel tank, it will confirm the car as being equipped with a Holley.
