Help!! I have an 82 Vette that I changed the Heater/AC Control assy on, I re-hooked up everything like it was, and it will only blow air out of the bottom heater vents. I move the switch to Air Conditioner and I get cold air, but only through the bottom ducts, and not the ones on the dash. Seems like it's a vaccum problem but I can't seem to find it
Any Ideas's anyone?
Not sure but once mine wasn't blowing as cold or coming throught the vents very well and found there is a black cable laying on the pass. side of the shifter, has a white plastic barrel (adjuster) that you can turn to adjust the vent door. Take off the side panel, turn on the air and then turn the white barrel adjuster until you hear the vent door close and you'll notice a lot more air and car getting colder.
Hope this helps.
I tried that, and it all changes correctkly but the vaccum doesn't pull close the bottom vents and direct the flow through the dash vents. I could take it to the dealer but they will charge too much. It is probably something simple. Thanks, Ron
Can you get the vacuum line off the diaphram that is supposed to close the door? If so, check to see if you have a vacuum. The other thing I would check is to go to the vacuum source in the engine that leads through the firewall and pull a vacuum with a vacuum pump with the a/c controls to off and see if it hold the vacuum. If not, pull out the control again - I know, a pain - and plug the vacuum line going into the unit and try pulling a vacuum in the engine again. If it doesn't hold, you've found your leak. If it doesn't, pull the outgoing line to the door diaphram and pull a vacuum to see if that does the trick. If the door closes, then the problem is probably in the switch itself. Silly question, but are you sure the rotary switch is engaging when you move the controls? Sometimes if the tab isn't alligned you move the control and the rotary switch doesn't move. Maybe that is the first thing to try. Good luck.
I will check the vacumm hoses, I did check to make sure the rotary valve is operating properly and it is. It has to be a vacuum issue somewhere becasue it blows really good at the floor. The Air Conditioner and the heater blow at the floor so it has to be a vacuum problem. I am just not good at diagnoising these things but I will keep looking. Thanks, Ron
