Default Pedal Swap...Done

Hardest part was getting steering column out because I had never done it before. Other than that, not too bad. Except I should have left the clutch safety switch off the pedal bracket because there is no way to get to the top left nut on the booster stud because it is in the way. I just took it off and threw it in the trash, but even it was hard to get off once the pedal bracket was in the car. I'm on my way to a more enjoyable car!!!

yes I did...you have to. It had been removed before so I am an old pro at that. I don't know how guys have done this w/ out removing steering column. they must be 5' tall and have small hands. The bolts in the wiper cowl were kind of hard to get at to loosen.

Yah, my wiper cowl bolts were gunked in. I didnt have to remove my steering column though. I took off all the brackets under the pedal bracket and then swaped the pedals with the pedal bracket hanging there. Still have to put it all together though. This was part of my tko-600 swap.

I would get that neutral safety switch out of the trash and take the time to install it. I went through the exact same thing. But realize, if you forget to step on the clutch pedal before you crank it, your starter is going to try to move the whole car. It is something that you might forget at first as you're use to the car being an automatic.

I wired it in with the automatic neutral safety switch wires. Works great. Anyways good work! That is a tough job. I'd rather pull a trans than pull the pedal assembly.

No thanks, I'll just leave it in the trash. I'll just start the car in neutral. I usually started it in neutral when I had my 69 4sp. On my 69 the switch starting to go bad and it almost stranded me several times before I finally cut the wires and bypassed it. Its a stupid Ralph Nader device, as are all neutral safety and clutch safety switches on all vehicles because it is one more switch to go bad and leave you stranded and have to call a tow truck(it is not safe to be stranded miles from home either)

Can you tell from my tone that these devices have caused me fits on more than one GM vehicle???

You can do the swap without removing the dash. I did mine and so did Carguy4sure.
Removing the steering column should be a 10 minute job. 2 bolts in the firewall, 2 bolts under the steering wheel but first you remove 3 trim screws and the trim plate. lower the wheel on to the seat and with a sharp scriber or small screw driver remove one white plug, one black and then a long skinny one and lift the column out. Did it this week.

I did mine same as everyone else except I did remove the speedo/tach this really opened things up. I also took the time to remove, sand blast and paint all of the brackets. Yea and while your at it replace all of the dash bulbs.

Well sounds like you've had worse experiences with the switch in place. So to each his own. And I'm with Norval, I did mine with the dash in place.
