I am pretty sure I have an issue with the choke on my 79. After the engine gets warm, I am getting a lot of forced air out of the left side breather on the valve cover. It sounds like a tea pot boiling and is only on the left side and only when the engine is warm. Do you think it could be a simple vacuume line or something in the choke? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! you guys never fail me!
So why would this only happen when the engine is warm? The whine softens when I rev the engine. What's the fix and what's the damage going to be if I bring it to a shop. I'm not an expert mechanic so I wouldn't try whatever you reccomend myself.
Things warm up, expand, etc.
Blowby is usually caused by the combustion gasses getting by the rings. This pressurizes the crankcase, and the gasses have to go somewhere. Usually out the breathers or oil dipstick tube. Some blowby is normal, but if you're getting a lot, your rings may be worn.
Simplest thing to do is a compression test. If you can change a spark plug, you can do this yourself.
The bad news is that if your rings are worn, the only fix is an engine rebuild. Or just keep driving untill it dies.

Thanks for your quick reply. I just got it this summer and now that you mention that, it's probably overdue for a plug/wire change. Hopefully it's a bad wire or plug that is not firing properly, thus creating the blow-by. I'll give that a try and see what happens. The blow-by makes sense since it is only on the one side. If it's the rings going bad, I'll bite the bullet and get it done! I think I'll do a compression test when I do the plugs.
