Default Sidepipes on 1979 Vette

Hey guys...i have scrolled though this forum and I love the pics of sidepipes. I want to get some..but I was wondering if the chrome on the pipes discolor....I have been looking at these

They are subject to discoloration near the cylinder heads. Worse, they are subject to start rusting. It's not possible to get a thick chrome/nickel plate around the tubes as they go into the collector and this area will eventually show rust.

Don't buy from Mid America and avoid the "Corvette" store markup.

For chrome or stainless, buy from Summit Racing.
For ceramic coated, go with Jet Hot Coatings.

And avoid the Hooker mufflers unless you want no power.

Did you receive my reply to your email ?

Sometimes (every C3 is different) there's some minor clearancing at the steering box required to fit the primary tubes - Chrome or any other coating will chip off where you the pipe.
I'd also be concerned about the pipes right behind the front wheel, I'm wondering how the coating holds up if you hit a water puddle and the cold water hits the very hot pipes... I think stainless is the best choice.
