Default New Vette, New Projects

i just picked up a 77 Corvette that was given to me as a gift. Here is what it has, the guy told me he took out the 350 and put in a 400ci motor that he had bored out six thousandths. He also put in some Camel Hump Heads, and also got rid of the TH350 and put in a TH400. The car doesnt run. However, having that in mind, im going to pull the motor and rebuild it, i want to supercharge it and wanted too see what route i should take, also i just wanted to get all of yalls two cents.

Also, i want to convert it to a 4 speed manual transmission, what all would i need and if i keep an eye out on these forums will i have enough.

Im very proud to be a new owner of a 77 Corvette, and i just want to do my build the right way the first time, not half *** it and pay the price for it. Thank you for all the advice and help.

It was not bored .006 it was bored .060. That is VERY thin for a 400 SB. I would take it out and see what it is actually bored. Don't take his word for it. Pull it apart and see what you have. Wha t are your power expectations for this motor.

as far as the motor, i dunno if im going to use it, i might buy a block and start from scratch, depending on what i can do to my existing motor, also what is a good motor to supercharge?

As far as power, hmmm i havent decided, i want to figure out my options, and than im going to make a budget, and whatever power i can get out of that budget will be enough.

VERY THIN for 400sbc. Look & measure ... if +60 now ... cannot safely bore again for any rebuild. More importantly ... Don't recall manufacturers offering 400 pistons larger than +60.

old school a .060 400 block was a over heater....i think most of the problem was 350 head gaskets on a 400 ,,,,, build a 400 (thin one) for torque and have it rright,,,no problems

And depending on your rear end ratio, I'd suggest either a 5 or 6 speed with overdrive... My rpms on highway are too high for my comfort.

Now who exactly bought you a 1977 Corvette as a gift?

thanks guys, if the motor is trash what should i go with? i dont want anything that is too badly overkill, also where can i locate one of those transmissions? i want to make it a manual, its auto, i hate automatics, why i dont know but i do, also how do you guys feel about supercharging? i havent made up my mind so i dont know waht i want to do. im pulling the motor here in the next week or so, so i will find out soon what is wrong with it. Thanks for all the advice and help.

They guy that gave it to me said the last time they drove it, it was smoking so they just parked it, this was four years ago, i wanna see if it will still turn over, but my inner mechanic says it wont, hopefully im wrong, if not i will build something from scratch.

on how i got the car as a gift, i dated a girl who was bestfriends with the girl nextdoor who her dad had this car. They moved back in december of 04, and the car has been at the old house since than, the bank was going take it, so he called me and told me a title was in the mail and on its way to me, and all i had to do was go pick it up, i couldnt say no to that. Who could?
