Default Convertible Top Adjustments

Does anyone know how to adjust the soft top frame on a 71 vette or where I can find any adjustment information on this? I cannot get my top to latch properly. If I latch the rear first, the front doesn't line up unless I force it and then then the rear latches let loose. If I latch the front first, then I can't latch the back because the back is up to high. The frame does not appear to be bent or damaged but something isn't right.

I know I had to play alot with mine to get it to finally "line up" many points of adjustment , the frame attaching pts behind the seats , the posts that attach in the rear deck can be shifted left or right , and screwed in or out , if you just put on a new top , the new weatherstrip can make it difficult to lock down.

I have the same problem and what I have found is that the back does have some adjustments by if you look at the pins they screw into the mount they can be adjusted up or down and the mounts have screws into the frame lossen them and you can slide it closse or farther away from the locks. the locks can be adjust a little by lossening the nuts and moving around very little. the front can be adjusted by the screwing the little rubber headed bolts up or down.

There is some adjustment in the bolts that hold the frame to the car but I try and stay away from that.

Keep in mind that the longer the top is up the more it streches and the easier it goes on.

Could be the upper stops on the window tracks need moving upwards.

Check the stops like eddie said.

Could also be a bad gear on the winder mechanism. Cheapest way is to source a good mechinsim from a wrecking yard. I picked up some good ones for $60 each last year. Hard to check with the door panels on.

The top has been folded up for 5 years without being moved. Maybe this could be some of the problem. It does seem like the top has shrunk. Do you think I will have to replace the top?
