Just noticed the trailing arm shims are showing on my 69 BB.Both sides appear to be in the same position, just don't remember seeing them before.Did I lose the pins or what?Man I'm getting old!!
Be aware the shims have a hole in one end, and just a slot in the other end.
I have seen some folks take a short cut, and just slide in the slotted end, so they dont have to take the time to get the trailing arm bolt thru the actual bolt hole in the shims
Ive never seen one slide out that was put in with the slotted end first, but I guess it could.......

Someone obviously hasn't has the pleasure of removing t/a shims from a '63 - '70 'Vette!

Uhhh...I thought the slot in the shim was for the bolt sleeve...and the hole was for the 6" cotter pin to slide through??????

Aint that the truth!
To everyone other than big G.
Early cars had 2 holes. Shims were installed, then the TA bolt went through one of the holes. I'm not even sure why they bothered to put the second hole there.
BTW, this means that removing shims requires removing the TA bolt. And since it's usually rusted in place, you have to sawzall through the shims and bolt.

Yup another reason you see bent strut rods after an alignment. I drilled the frame on my 69 and upgraded to the slotted shims and cotter pin.
I think it was 1970 they started to use the slotted ones.

I know this is an old post, but it is related to what I am going through now. I tore the TA's out of my 68, and want/need to replace the shims. I can't seem to find any vendors that carry the 2 hole shims. I would rather not drill to accomodate the cotter pin for the slotted shims.
Anyone know where to get the "2 hole" shims???
Thanks...
~Rich
Edit: Never mind......found them.
