Read an interesting thread by someone about the advancement of carbs in the last 15 years. Was wondering about distributors.. Was thinking about putting in the MSD pro billit ready to run distributor and was wondering if anyone is using or heard about any problems with them.. it's going in a very tired NOM 327 but will in 24 months be switched to maybe a zz383 if it works well...any thoughts.. set up in 24 months I hope to be zz383 with demon 750dp the msd pro billit ready to run with maybe patriot headers.. and a new 3.36 rear with girdle.. car to be used as daily driver 6 months a year(60 miles total a day).no drag racing but fun and hard driving light to light..just looking for somthing strong and reliable that won't make me think twice everytime i start it...Demon obviously would be sent to lars first to do his amazing work... (probably could use a 350 and be a bit cheaper but i can get a great deal on a new zz383 ) any thoughts or sugestions
I have an MSD Pro Billet running an MSD 6AL ignition box and I love it, there is almost zero spark scatter, meaning that when you look at the timing with a timing light every flash reads the same. The car starts better and runs better. It also has the ability of running a two step rev limiter and other ignition modules which I like.
BUT. If I were doing it all over I would probably just use a good HEI distributor with a seperate coil. it would improve the ignition for a lot less cost...
for the Carb I would seriously look at the Edlebrock carb supposed to be better for the street and more tuneabl for economy. If they make a spreadbore I'd be all over that, the small primaries should increase fuel economy and the big secondaries should make it go fast
