Default L-82

Right now my 80' L-82 vette is having a new crate engine put in it because I blew a rod. I got the engine from autozone, and now im being told i shouldn't have gotten it from autozone. I have to buy new plugs, wires, oil pump and water pump. Someone tell me wether an autozone crate engine is reliable or not.

...don't know about "their" motor, but last year I put in a brand new GM Crate motor in my '75 for $1187. It was the 1973-'85 Direct Replacement 4 Bolt Main 350ci 260hp Crate engine and so far I put over 6K miles on it and it's been "perfect".

Ok, well this engine was about that -the core deposit. I was just told that i should have went with some one like Jasper. But thanks, thats good to know.

For that kind of money, what you got is hard to beat for a reliable daily driver. Plus if anything goes wrong you know where they are.

Keep in mind the $1187 GM motor PB installed was NEW ... autozone, jasper, marshall are REBUILT.

That new GM crate like PB installed is a VERY good value ... probably the best value available for 350. If it replaces a 350 ... then its 3yr/50K mile warranty applies ... backed by GM.

The term "crate" motor has been misused a lot lately. So here goes:

Crate motor: An engine that is 100% new -- in the crate.
Remanufactured motor: An engine that is overhauled with a significant amount of new parts.
Rebuilt motor: An engine with used parts that are (hopefully) still within spec. Broken and worn parts are replaced.
