Is there any way that my alternator could only be providing power to the engine and not charging the battery or powering anything else? I have the problem that even with the car running, my headlights won't shine very bright at all or if i haven't charged the battery in a while the alternator doesn't seem to power anything. Thoughts? Help?
Possible bad battery (not taking a charge).......or bad alternator (check voltage out of alternator with engine running; should be about 14 volts).....if only 12v, then alternator is bad.....dim lights means not charging......
yeah the alternator is fine, i replaced it a month or so ago and even had the shop check it in their tester to make sure that it was fine. I do get over 14v at the alternator when the car is running.

.......OK,...check voltage at the BATTERY with the engine running; it should be close to 14v also, or possible slight ground or faulty positive cable......
Had a problem with mine the lights werent very bright check connection on alternator also check ground wire on alternator mine was broken off under rubber cup

On our cars its normal for the voltage out of the alternator to be low when engine RPMs are below 1000. Do your lights brighten when you rev the engine up?
You may have an open ground. You may have high resistance in the + line to the fuse box. Get a voltmeter. On volts scale red lead on the block[unpainted] black lead on an unpainted chassis point. Any volts=bad ground. From + lead of alt. to + input of fusebox. Any volts= bad connection.
