Happy thanksgiving yall! Well Basically I want to find any one who has installed a gm zz383 with the single plain hi rise intake manifold. I want to know specifically how you made the hood fit. I have a demon 750 carb and for now a regular air cleaner ( I know this will not fit), till I find out if a drop base air cleaner will fit and exactly what kind you used, or if you needed to buy a new hood, what type and how many extra inched I will need, or if you had to fiberglass a scoop into your hood or exactly what you did? Any input would be awesome. Thanks guys.
Yes, I did use different dropped base air cleaners with the stock hood.
even my present cowl induction hood is probably the same clearance at the most forward point of the front top of the air cleaner. I'm now using a tall Team-G with a wood thermal carb spacer.

I bought one from Auto Z. Replaced the filter with a 3" K&N(Auto Z) Put a K&N filtered top on it(Jegs) If you still have problems you can drop your filter size a little. Should still get plenty of air with the filtered top. Larry
however, on my 82 the performer and moroso filter with a narrow k and n fit, just. as i go to the air gap rpm or the victor jr ( havent decided yet) , i have to cut out the 2+ inch inner scoop that originally fit the crossfire set up. im thinking of finding an aftermarket hood with a center raised area like the 69 z28 so i dont have to destroy the stock hood. anyone have something like that to trade me?
why not switch to a dual plane intake? It would probably give you more hood clearance plus dual plane's are typically better for the street as they give better low end torque and performance. Single plane intakes are better at the top end and usually give more HP at the top end but how often are you at WOT for sustained times on the street?
