Hey there, your window regulator gear may be damaged, My '78 has the same problem right now, goes up half way and stops, I can pull the window up a little and it will catch and go the rest of the way.. one of my "to do" things.

As far as your dash lights... first off did you check the fuses? do your console lights work? I am not sure on a '74 but my '78 didn't work for a while, there was a groung wire that I didn't hook up after I replaced the dash..

hope this helps...

Congratulations on your vet purchase. The way I learned and still do is break it first, and end up fixing it on my 2nd or third atempt. For some reason I have to learn the hard way.I am still learning and I have done 5 full restorations, and im still breaking stuff. I just started #6 a 78 anaversary and going smooth so far. one thing I reccomend is that you purchase a service repair manual and as much info you can get your hands on. even parts catalogs can be learning tools,I notice that the common stuf that breaks are in the front, and at least you know what the replacment part looks like. I love the hobby and the fact that I will never know it all . I read this forum every night and enjoy it to
your repair problems are very common ones and you can do it. best whishes, murray

You must remember to be patient, it's not unusual here to have a lot of reads but no posts. We all read and we all learn.

If you are very young and limber you can reach the back of your tach from laying in the floor. Or the whole panel comes out pretty quickly and you can do it a lot easier that way. Get the manual to see how to remove the dash pad.

Probably your light switch is causing the lack of dash lights. Try twisting the **** back and forth like you are dimming the lights to see if it cleans some of the corrosion out. I've seen several of the switches with lots of corrosion on them. Get the manual to see how to remove this side of the dash.

Will your window go all the way up with the door open? If so adjust the window so it fits better. It really sounds like the gear on the window has a tooth missing. Using the manual you can see how to get inside the door.

Good Luck with your new toy. Did I mention get the manuals?

Bill

my guess is its the window regulator, i had the same question about 3 weeks ago right after i purchased my 78.
window would go all the way up to about 2 inches from the top and motor would just spin.
the guys on this list told me regulator and how right they were.

you can see here on my page
http://hometown.aol.com/coronet69/page1.html
the missing teeth.
i bought the window regulator repair gear kit ($47)from corvette america
and just finished it up yesterday evening. by the time you see this
i may have the updated photos on the page.
adjusted the window and now it works perfect.

this site is invaluable for all corvette information.
