Default '68 Hood Release

I went to show off my baby to a friend yesterday, and the hood release cable let go. I've heard the release cable is (read: use to be) attached to lever system under the hood, but now I'm stuck. There's no tention on the cable when I pull it. Any suggestions on the best way to pop the hood so I can reattach the cable?

Lift the 'vette on the drivers side high enough to crawl underneath. I use a long pry-bar to trip the lever, you can look up and see it, next to the master cylinder. Use a jack stand for safety.

I just did mine today on my 71, and it took only about 4 min. I removed the drivers side front fender shark grill. The hood latch is an easy reach by hand and will pop vary easy.

I fixed the cable with a brass control rod clamp. I'll get a new cable later, but for now the Allen head screw clamp is holding the cable just fine.

A tip- take a short piece from the old cable and attach it to the connection in 601P's pic. Let the piece hang down to a level just above the driver's side gill. If the inside release ever fails again, you can reach up with a pair of pliers and pull down on the short piece to pop the hood.
