I was in the process of installing new poly bushings in my upper control arms last night when I ran into an issue. According to the directions the inner bushing sleeves should protrude about 0.01" past the outside edge of the bushing. The problem is when I position the inner bushing sleeves against the cross shaft shoulders the sleeves don't extend beyond the bushing. Am I missing something? Should I place a shim between the cross shaft shoulder and inner sleeve? The problem is exactly the same on both control arms so I don't think the problem is due to the arms being damaged. As allowe per the directions, I'm re-using the existing outer bushing sleeves - they appear to be in good condition.

If I position the cross shaft such that the sleeve is flush with the bushing on one one side...
Take a belt sander to the outside of the bushings and get the clearance you are looking for. I clearanced all of mine about .005 to .010 going by a book I read. Some poeple and manufacturs say it is not needed but I clearance mine. The purpose of poly bushings is supposted to be to take away deflection in the ft. end and as in the article I read they should move easyily with no binding and as little clearance as possible. If they are clearanced properly it should take care of a lot of the squeaks and looseing bolts you hear so much about.
When I said to take a belt sander to the outside of the bushing I ment to remove material from the end where the washer and bolt go. You will need to take the bushing out of the sleeves to do this.
