Who makes them that fit the C3 battery compartment? I'll need bypass wiring for the alarm and stereo also ....

Thanks!

There are cheap knife switches but ClassAct has the nicest with a remote with a remote key switch. I haven't seen it but Carguy4sure told me about it. I would like one of them also

norvalwilhelm, I think you should get 2, install one on your car, then I'll buy the other one off of you and see how you installed it. We both have a 75 coupe, so it sounds good to me.

Somehow I think I am loosing with that deal. I got a few extra catalogues with my last coleman catalgue and they have some really nice disconnects. One will go in my car before next summer. I just haven't picked one yet.
They do offer different options and one includes with charging and one without. I don't know what that means yet.

Oh, I cant picture a knife switch fitting between that side terminal battery and the side of the battery box.

I am going to represent The Vette Club at the annual San Diego International Auto Show in December. They picked two entries from each generation out of club cars, to be in the show.

For the fire marshall's requirements, I need to have no more than a quarter-tank of gas (they check it at the entry to the facility) and a way to disconnect the battery for the five days the car will be on the floor. It's a cool deal and my wife and I get 'Exhibitor' badges that allow us in the show all week for as many hours as we can stand.

I just have to deal with having the Vette outta my sight and my garage for a week

Carguy4sure/Doug has a small knife switch battery disconnect on the battery. He pulls the seat forward, opens the battery box and slips the knife switch to kill the battery. It works, easy to install and probably doesn't cost alot. He hopefully will see this post and chime in.

Paul, here are a few...
a battery cut off switch that can be mounted through a panel...
http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ACC-41860

A side terminal Shut off switch…
http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=WIR-ST-9

Top Terminal Shut off switch…
http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=WIR-GKK

For a bypass, you can just install an inline fuse around the cut-off switch. Just use a large enough fuse to power the the radio and alarm. Or plug in one of these with the battery disconnected and it will power most radios in good light...
http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ACC-50000

Good luck... GUSTO

Do you want me to mail you one? I bought two just because it was the same on shipping. It's a removable red key type. I just cut my big positive and solder on the copper lugs. I don't worry about my battery drining down when the car sits on days like today when it's lightly snowing.

This is the typical "green wheel" battery disconnect switch. Note that you can get one with that little bypass fuse that provides enough power for a clock and perhaps an alarm, but not enough to start the car. (Fuse would blow anyway). If they require battery to be disconnected for 5 days why not just disconnect the battery cable?? I wouldn't worry about the alarm in the secure location. But, I do think we should all have quick disconnect switches in our old cars anyway.

Paul, PM me with the dates you'll be down by your car and I'll drop by and say hi. I know for sure that my dad and I will be going to the show this year; we might bring the Vette down, or the E-Type, depending on how they're running.

Norval, carguy4sure seen my disconnect switch and did comment on it. It a complete remote system that can only be used with fiberglass or plastic panels.
It's based on a magnet switch, I carry a magnetic key on my key ring and just pass it over my rear wheelwell above my drivers side tire without touching my Vette body and the mag switch changes to off or on. But it has a optional auxilliary hot feed (if you want it hooked up) to feed the clock or car computer (if you have one).
I can also if I wish insert the key to kill all power including the aux. power feed but if I use this method I must turn it back on again with the key to reset back to magnet again. This complete unit is installed inside the rear compartment of the drivers wheelwell, it took me about 1 1/2 hrs to hook it up. Anyone with a steel body car can not use this system only those of us with fiberglass bodies. I tried a passing normal magnet over it to see if I could switch it and it won't work for what ever reason. Only the mag key does that came with the unit.
It's made by MagTech and cost me I think $100.00 US. and is rated up to 750 amps.
If you need a address or name where I ordered it from I'll post it in this thread.

I can't easily get to my battery. With the shoulder harness passing through the seat it is not convenient to pull the seat forward all the time to get at the battery. One the seat doesn't lean that far forward before the adjusters hit the seat insert and it would put undo wear on the seat and harness.
No I want a fancy one that moves the disconnect someother place.
Thanks George
