Default L88 Hood Problems

Ok, here's the problem: I bought an aftermarket L88 hood.... after getting it back from being painted... I've noticed the holes aren't in exactly the right place....so the hood can't be lined up. It's about 1 1/2 inches off....won't slide forward any further. So, short of making "adapters" for the hinges to get more forward ....or re-drilling the hood and trying to figure out a way to re-thread it....what the heck can I do? I can't live with the hood up past the fenders and a 2 inch gap at the nose! Thanks for ideas!

Default L88 hood

Guess you got the wrong hood.
What year vette do you have and for what year vette is the hood for? Where did you get the hood? Who is the Mfg?
Why did you paint it before you fitted it?

Well it was for 77-82 vettes...got it fro a guy off e-bay. My car is a 77. Everything lines up perfect...when sitting on...but the blot holes just seem off. My buddy bought the EXACT hood...from the SAME guy and it fit perfect....so that's why I didn 't test fit it. Shame on me...but now I need to figure out a fix.

Since it's not original anyway, I would take your hinges (or a spare set), have extensions welded on them and redrill them for the correct spaceing. Unless I'm missing something, this seems the simplest solution... other than going back to the stock hood...

Have you called the guy you bought it from and asked him why the difference?

Good luck... GUSTO

Did you try flipping your hinges over? I struggled to get mine to fit after changing the radiator. Then I realized that I had flipped the hinges 180 degrees to get them out of the way. They look like they are correct, they just don't line up right. Flipped them around and all is well with the world again...

I did the same thing once. Make sure your hinges are oriented right.
