If the housing bore is chewed up then you'll have to set it up in a mill and spot face it(counterbore) then add a plug to restore the original dimensioning.
The problem I've had with several tach drives I've rebuilt was the replacement parts were Total Junk. Purchased from 2 very rep vendors too and got the same parts- they buy from the same source I guess, anyway the gears were bad and would bind up by hand.
When I see where guys replaced both the shaft and gear then had them break in a very short time I suspect the problem is not their fault.
If you can find GM gears they work, if not the only other source I used was High Tech in Fl who make their own gears.
