I am pulling my body off my '69 tomorrow AM and have removed almost everything in the listed posts. The only issue I have is the rear valance. Seems someone molded it in on the sides. The seam across the top is completley separated, but the seam on both ends have been glassed together. I cannot tell where the vertical seams normally go. It appears that the vertical seams are straight and right above the exhaust bezels....and about 1/4" towards the center. I am planning on cutting vertically with a hack saw blade , but would feel much better if someone can explain where the seam should go. A picture would be most useful!
As far as I know, the rear valance does not have to be removed as long as all the bumper brackets have been removed. I haven't done mine yet but I will soon and I seem to have clearance with the bumper parts removed. Perhaps someone with more exp. will chime in?
You should be able to find the seam if you look under the car. The valance panel and the body side both originally had bonded supports to bolt the panel in. Unless these support were removed when the panel was bonded in, the seam should be evident.
Also agree that you may be able to shift the body rearward enough to clear the rear crossmember when lifting the body.
NO WAY... You need to pull the exhaust panel... It tucks under the frame and it will be a pain in the azz to move the body around. I know because I did it. The exhaust valance is held in place with four bolts at the top seam and also is screwed to the muffler tip surrounds as well as two behind license plate frame. You can remove it now... or repair the fiberglass when it snags the rear crossmember later and cracks the rear tail panel. I should have gone with the latter option.
**also wanted to add... no bonding strips on the rear exhaust valance... it is just bolted on... albeit probably painted over... just score the seam with a nice blade...

Remove the panel, it will get broke if you don't. The quarter panels have a flange bonded on to support the exhaust bezel. The valance panel does not. Grind down the center vertical of the arch to find the seam. You could use a putty knife to separate the panel...(be careful)....
