Default What Are The Best Headers???

I need some headers and I want to know what you feel are the best as far as flange thickness, tube thickness, and price. They dont have to be ceramic coated. Im thinking hedman or hooker competition but I dont know. Thanks.

I've been following this topic for some time. The forum consensus seems to be that the 1 5/8 dynomax is the best deal for the buck and seems to fit well. Supercomps fit well but are only 1 7/8 which is a little big for most.
My elect shop says Headman and the other hi buck headers will fit better and last longer. I thought about getting some uncoated headers and tweeking them to fit PROPERLY and then sending them out to be coated.
Block huggers and shorties are a in between fix. I want the benifits of full headers but not the problems. I still haven't made up my mind. JMHO

Dynomax or Hedman...are going to give you the best bang for the buck...either will fit reasonably well. I have Hedmans, but between the two I like the dynomax better because of its additional clearance from the Idler arm.

Between the two look for the thickest mounting flanges you can find as they will help prevent blown gaskets

If I didn't have to worry about smog I'd go with those Hooker Sidemount headers no question. They're badass, but not so user friendly I hear. But then again, you didn't buy a C3 for practicality.

Hookers or Dynomax are both excellent brands (Hooker Super Comps are available in 1 3/4", which work well)....but whatever you choose, I'd seriously consider coating of some kind or any header you get WON'T last longer than a couple good years. The coating more than pays for itself in time.

I would suggest using Stage 8 header bolts. Have used them for about 5 years without any gasket (FelPro) trouble on my Dynomax headers.

I went with Stan's Headers, and was really happy with the fit, 3/8 flange and ball socket collector.
Plus you can't loose with Tri-y's...

The Dynomax Corvette SB Cerama-Coat headers fit & flow great, much better than is commonly known. Have been rec. them & many have them now.

BB Hedman 2"

Note Some use Hedman SB since they are avail. w/ air fittings.

I really like the Hedman's elite header. It is 14 gage, normal is 18, has a 3/8th thick flange normal is 1/4, coated and reasonable cost.

The problem is the only elite header they make for the bigblock is 1 3/4 tubing. they can NOT bend 14 gage tubing in 2 inch for the bigblock.

I run 2 inch hedmans.

I have Doug Thorley Headers (now Doug's Headers just bought out by Pertronix). These have (had?) the thickest walls and thickest flanges of any header on the market for the Vette. The tubes are so thick... (how thick are they Todd?), that when I replaced the rams horns, the car got QUIETIER!

Mine were chrome plated but after the chrome blued, I had them de-chromed and ceramic coated ($150 total) by a local outfit.

Highly recommended.

Thorley makes 14 guage 2 inch primary/3.5" collector 4 into 1 headers for a BB (part #THY360). Fits manual trans no AC only though. Important feature is that this is the closest to equal length I have found in a production (affordable,non-custom) design for undercar BB Vette headers. All tubes are between 34-36" in length. Flanges are 3/8". Fitment is very tight but clears everything.
