I just received a total polyurethane kit made by Prothane and have a question about the Trailing Arm bushings on a 1973. The Prothane part number is 7-303-BL and description is GM RR C-Arm WO SHLS 63-82 Corvette. I am confused about how these are installed. The old rubber bushings where installed with the inner metal sleeve flared over the outside washers. This kit comes with the bushings, inner sleeve and 4 washers that are larger then the inner metal sleeve. The inner metal sleeve will not fit thru the washers to be flared. Do these bushings just press into the trailing arm and the washers go on the outside of the bushings by the shims??
Mine looks nothing like that. It is just 2 bushings, one insert and two washers per side. The hole in the washer is smaller then the insert so it cannot fit over the insert so that the insert can be flared. I thought that maybe the poly bushings where different then the standard rubber bushings and did not require the flare. Maybe I received the incorrect part???????
So has anyone else replaced the original rubber trailing arm bushings with poly and experienced the same delema? I just need to know if the poly bushings require a the inner metal sleeve to be flared or is that just for the original rubber bushings?
yours came w/ sleeves? mine came without sleeves, the original ones were to be reused (and I chiseled them out)?? If you have the sleeves, rpess them in, push in the urethane and then the washers go 1 on each side. They protect the urethane from the shims digging in
The polys usually use the old metal inserts in the torque arm, the rubbers you replace. You need to compress the bushing and flare the inner sleeve and it holds the washers in place. I can send you a pic of the ones I just did. PM gtr1999, he's an EXPERT!!! on this.
