Default do i need to change this camshaft?

hey there, i could use some guidance . the drivetrain is from jasper. iknow , i know ,but the cars paint and interior were perfect so i bought t. its 357" 10.5:1 steel 4bolt crank pink rods dart iron heads performer and holly 750va msd6al ,gone through 700r4.3.73 rear. ive got a 2800 stall in the box.. the cam in it is a crane Blue racer lift is 488/510 duration is 234i 244ex adv duration is 300i 310 exh recommended range is 2500 -6500 i think that the performer is wrong and even the performer rpm might not be as good as a victor jr with this cam. is it worth swapping cams for one that makes power sooner or will the stall make up for the low end dificiency, and if so is the victor jr the way to go or will rpm be fine. hood clearance is an issue with the rpm but thats secondary to correct performance. i also think a 650 or 750 dp will help with snappy responce ineed help with that decision as well. the car will realistically only see the dragstrip for hot rod sunday and super chevy events. i just want really good responce up to 100mph. what do you think?

I would leave the cam the convertor will make up the difference, believe me when I put a 2500 stall in my 383 it really woke it up. my cam makes power in the same range 2500 to 6500 rpm

that cam will work fine with that converter. In my opinion the performer rpm is the better intake for that setup. the open manifolds are for top end flow above say 5000.

This is fairly decent combo up to the carb choice. A 650 Holley DP, will help "wake it up". The "Victor Jr." will make it worse. It would be nice to have more specs on the heads however (flow numbers or even part numbers), they could be the main problem. Too large a runner usually kills the "low-end, seat-of-pants" feeling and starts to feel better "upstairs". Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. I know this info has been posted by me several times, but It'll provide a relative comparison for you. A 100% outwardly stock appearing unit WITH all the correct numbered parts, block, 186 heads, stock cast intake and exhaust manifolds in a '69 Camaro (350/300HP original rated) came off the dyno with 355+ HP and 390+ FtLbs. torque with 9.75:1 C.R. All under 5800 RPM. Runs fine on 89/93. This unit had a Blue-Racer grind also. It was a WG1170 and it's the factory grind for the L-82. Customer was extremely satisfied. The "original" Blue-Racer cam line (before Crane owned them) performed excellently.

sounds like you need to fine tune the "tuning on it" before you throw any thing else on it. the last 10% of the tuning effort is where all the power is.
