Default Speaker Recommendation

What are the mounting dimensions that limit the speaker choice?
Will any 4x6 fit as long as its shallow enough? And what is that depth? Or is there some other restriction?

Does anyone have Kenwood 4x6 KFC-4675C speakers in the kick panel of their Vette? Apparently these are the same speakers that Paragon sells.
I am looking for something resonably cheap, and the Crutchfield website says these will fit. Does anyone know first hand weather they will fit without cutting or altering anything on a 69.

Default 4 x 6 speakers

Just purchased a pair of Boston Acoustics 4 x 6.

Boston Acoustics 746 4" x 6" Plate
4" x 6" 2-Way Plate Speakers • 12 - 80W Recommended • 4" Copolymer cone • 3/4" Ferrofluid-cooled Tweeter • Moisture Resistant

Purchased for 80.00 compared to 130.00 at Tweeters.

Looking to put an 8" sub in the back with two 6 x 9 in the kickpanels

Yes, the Kenwoods will fit....I had those in my '69 before I upgraded to speakers with a higher power rating.......there's plenty of room in the kick panels for just about any 4x6 speaker.

My Dad is actually a speaker engineer, so if anyone has any very technical questions about this, keep me in mind.

For the front I'm using Eclipse 4x6s they sound good, better than most. The Eclipse drivers are pretty deep, relative to most 4x6s, so I don't think that depth will be an issue. Whatever you do, stay away from those dual tweeter co-axials, they suck. The woofer makes most of the midrange and if you have to much bling mounted infront of it, it will sound like ****. And the tweeter should be either 1" or 3/4" preferably silk dome, stay away from those cheesey tin ones.

You need 10 ohm speakers if you are using your original radio. If you use the typical 4 ohm, you will toast your radio over time.

What are the mounting dimensions that limit the speaker choice?
Kick panel speaker loc. (77 measured) about 5 3/4 H X 4 W X 2 1/4 D.
4X6 fit easily, 5 1/4 can be fitted. A mounting plate is needed.

Lightweight Kenwood eXcelon dualmag comps 5.25.

The engine makes enough music for me.

Thanks. The 427 makes plenty of music for me too. Just want to have a radio in there for longer trips. Does anyone know if the opening in a 69 kick panel is the same size?
